Retro Tech May - Two Weeks In! - Thoughts so far!

Two weeks, huh. I'm sorry I haven't been super consistent with updates but since I don't have much to say every single day I'm likely not gonna make a new post everyday and mostly reserve new blogposts on this challenge either for milestones or for when I have something to say. I'm almost halfway done and I think I have a few things to say. This might be brief but might be worth your read nonetheless.

Now where do I start? Mentally I've had some ups and downs and this challenge does play into the extent to which I feel this or that. When I feel good everything goes on as usual and I have no difficulty with day to day activities but when I'm struggling mentally, which I have been doing on and off these past few days, this challenge does make certain feelings worse. It facilitates this very specific type of loneliness that you can't explain and likely feel day to day but it hits particularly bad when you want to lay down but can't reach out to a friend without getting up and you're just left there. I've been advised to stop this whole ordeal if it gets too taxing on my mental state and I will do so if needed, but I feel like I can still handle it. And even if I feel like things are getting particularly rough I will try to first just install discord and bluesky on the SE and see if that's all I need.

the SE is the MVP of this challenge by far

Will I ever do this again regardless of whether I stop or not? Yes. But definitely not for a month. And if you want to do this unless you have a well put together IRL friendgroup (which sadly I do not have since it's quite difficult and alienating looking for anything when you're an immigrant and don't have many opportunities to make new friends IRL due to no circumstances for that being available really) I would recommend you do it for a week, maybe 15 days at most. I do still want to make similar challenges and even do this one again a year from now (as a yearly tradition) but I'm definitely going to limit myself to a week or two. However I will embrace aspects I've learnt from this challenge into daily life.

When it comes to occupying myself outside of browsing, going on walks and going to movies I've been mostly playing video games, namely beat Zuma again and also I've been slowly chipping away at this game titled Shogo: Mobile Armor Division which I may or may not make a review on later down the road. The game is available on Steam but it's a real burden getting it to work on modern machines. Even on XP you need to set compatibility mode to 98 for the music to play. This is a game I've been meaning to play for ages since it's a game I saw my brother go through when I was very young, was unable to find it for about 20 years and then it randomly came to me. I'm basically experiencing something I haven't been able to experience since I was very young and I'm having a great time with the game, technical issues aside.

Another update might be coming soon because I just got myself a 2010 iMac and I'm gonna put it to good use - probably will make a post about my experiences with it!
